Care Instructions

Each piece of The Missing Touch jewellery is crafted from high quality materials, including recycled sterling silver (92.5% pure silver), 14k gold plating, decorative cubic zirconia, and enamel. With a little everyday care they will stay beautiful for years.

General care

  • Store jewellery separately in a tarnish resistant jewellery box or pouch.
  • Keep away from abrasive surfaces and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid dropping and knocking against hard surfaces.
  • Polish frequently with a soft polishing cloth to maintain shine.
  • Make sure your jewellery is the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.
  • Remove before swimming/bathing and undertaking physical activity.
  • Avoid contact with make-up, creams, lotions and oils as well as alcohol-based products such as hand sanitiser.
  • Avoid silver dips, polishing liquids, ultrasonic cleaning and strong/abrasive chemicals.

Perfume & fragrance

Perfume and hairspray contain alcohol and oils that can dull gold plating and pearls. Apply fragrance first, let it dry – then put on your jewellery.

Pearls love to be worn

Natural pearls benefit from regular wear. The skin's natural moisture and oils help preserve their lustre, while long periods of storage can cause pearls to become dry and lose some of their radiant sheen. Wear them often to keep their glow at its best.

Treated freshwater cultured pearls: Never soak in water or rub vigorously as this could damage the nacre. Instead, wipe over with a clean, very soft cloth dampened in lukewarm soapy water, then pat dry.

Discolouration

Some metals may react with the skin, resulting in discolouration – copper in particular is known for causing this reaction. As our 14k gold-plated pieces are rich in copper, some wearers may experience a noticeable green discolouration on the skin as the result of a chemical reaction between acids in the skin and the jewellery metal, or a reaction between the metal and another substance on the body, such as a lotion. The discolouration is not harmful and can easily be removed with water and soap.
